Yoga Club 2019

The Bhagavad Gita has been a primary text of the yoga tradition for centuries and has inspired modern minds like Mahatma Gandhi, Henry David Thoreau, and Carl Jung.

During the course of the year, we'll break down the content of the Bhagavad Gita to make the major themes more accessible and digestible. There is an opportunity to sign up for the year and also for individual semesters of Yoga Club.  Each Semester has a thematic focus from the Gita and a book that will guide our study.

Day/Time: Sacred Sundays, 10am-1pm

Dates for each Semester:

Summer School: Yoga is Skill in Action  - 6/2, 6/23, 7/14, 8/4

Fall Semester: Bhakti Bliss - 9/22, 10/6, 10/27, 11/10, 11/24, 12/8

Location: The Space SF

Teaching Skills Seminar: Real Bodies, Real Yoga

This is a day-long educational event for yoga teachers and/or aspiring yoga teachers to learn yoga therapeutics.

If you've ever wondered how to help students with a sensitive low back, what to do when someone complains of shoulder pain, or how to get more private clients, even if you just want to know more about your own body or help family members, this will answer those questions and more.

I'll be teaching my tried and true therapeutics for common injuries (shoulder "stuff", sensitive low back, sciatica, knees, etc); how to work with students who are super tight and/or new to yoga; and how I help clients with limited mobility.

  • You’ll learn the rule of thumb for how to approach all body types and all injuries.

  • You'll receive templates for injury-specific sequences.

  • Look at Case Studies from my clients.

  • Spend the day in a small group with plenty of Q&A time.

It will be a truly power-packed day with information that is rarely or barely covered in teacher trainings. Click here for registration:

If you know someone who would benefit from this offering, please forward this event. I believe the yoga world needs more of this knowledge because we'll be able to better serve our students and also reach the people who will never take public classes but could really use some yoga love.

Day-Long Retreat: Power to The Pelvis

Day-Long Retreat: Power to The Pelvis

Knowledge is power. Reclaim Yours.

For most of it's history, yoga has been taught primarily by men, with no direct experience of a women's body. Because of this, many of the alignment principles for common postures do not take into consideration the form and function of the female pelvis.

In this daylong retreat, you'll learn about the sacred structure of the female pelvis, how to create more awareness and resilience in the pelvic floor, and how to adjust common poses and alignment principles to better fit a woman's body.

You’ll have 2 practices with Alison to unlock the power of your pelvis. The afternoon will include special guest teacher Lori Metroka Yu , a physical therapist and pelvic floor specialist.

Full Spectrum Saturdays

Full Spectrum Saturdays

Full Spectrum Saturdays.

A “Full Spectrum” practice means that we’ll cover all categories of poses for a well rounded and satisfying experience. The extended time will allow for a deliberate and rhythmic pace plus depth and discovery.

During this series, we’ll also use the Five Mahabhutas or 5 Great Elements to guide our effort and awareness. When you use the 5 elements to feel into your body, alignment becomes more intuitive and action becomes more organic.

With the 5 Elements, you’ll circumvent the thinking mind and instead of being trapped in right/wrong, good/bad, you’ll gain access to the feeling presence of the body and generate a state of wonder and exploration in your practice.

Curriculum:

Saturdays, 10am-12pm

2/9 - Session 1: Earth - the roots of the body - feet and hands

3/9 - Session 2: Water - free-flowing hips and the current of the low back

3/23 - Session 3: Fire - ignite the abdominals and deep core

4/13 - Session 4: Air - uplift your heart

5/4 - Session 5: Space - expansive breath, liberated body
